About Japan Experience

Japan Experience is the English name of Vivre le Japon, a travel agency specialising in Japan, founded 30 years ago.

A travel agency based in both Paris and Kyoto, Vivre le Japon aims to be Europe's leading specialist in travel in Japan, working with no middlemen, to bring its travellers:

  • more transparency and simplicity
  • a better knowledge of the country
  • the best prices

What does "Vivre le Japon" mean?

"Vivre le Japon" means "live Japan" in French.
This name expresses the travel agency's specific aim: to meet the expectations of today's new travellers, who want to go to Japan for more than a visit, to discover the country, meet its inhabitants, get to know another culture, and experiment another lifestyle. We want to make the journey "not just a product of the tourist industry, but a moment in life that's unique, irreplaceable and precious" (Claude Saulière, Chairman of Vivre le Japon).

House lets, exclusive from Japan experience

Vivre le Japon offers house lets, which offer travellers the opportunity to live a Japanese lifestyle in a traditional house.
This affordable option is ideal for families and lets travellers to free to feel at home at the heart of Kyoto or Tokyo, in typical neighbourhoods. Launched in 2007, our house lets were an immediate success: to date, around 5,000 people have tried and loved this option.

In addition, for a journey in total safety, Vivre le Japon has created the Travel Angels, "guardian angels" who take care of welcoming, assisting and advising travellers throughout their stay in their rented house. They are either Japanese or French people living in Japan, and have been chosen by Vivre le Japon for their courtesy, kindness, culture, willingness to help and common sense. Like a friend, a Travel Angel is available to answer travellers' questions throughout their entire stay.

It is often frustrating for travellers to have to content themselves with visiting tourist sites, without being able to directly experience the culture of the country, or really be able to share things with its inhabitants. That's why Vivre le Japon offers tenants in Japanese houses the chance to take part in special activities, when they wish and with no obligation. This way they can get to know the country better, rub shoulders with its inhabitants, and discover it not just with their eyes but with all their other senses too: taste, hearing, touch and smell.

Claude Saulière, Chairman and Founder

“Discovering a country, especially Japan, so comparable to ours and yet so different, does not just mean looking at how people lived three centuries ago, but how they live today, their daily life. To do this, you need to be able to stroll around, observe things, meet people, lose yourself...”

Claude Saulière, age 67, founded Vivre le Japon and has run it since 1981.
