Hanatôro Higashiyama
Every March, generally the second week, the Higashiyama district is adorned with two thousand five hundred lanterns placed on the ground which illuminate the alleys and other remarkable sites of the surroundings, Kiyomizu-dera , Kodaiji , Shorenin , Chionin , Yasakajinja ... A whole heritage dressed for a week of festivities to the rhythm of performances of butoh, contemporary post-atomic dance, and works of art scattered here and there in the district or creations of ikebana , Japanese floral art.
To read : Butoh dance
At nightfall, the myriad of lights charge the place with mysticism. But a myriad in keeping with the times, hordes of fireflies whose LEDs, tiny light-emitting diodes, are as reminiscent of an electronic street in Akihabara in Tokyo as the cobblestones of Higashiyama!
