Yunotsu-onsen 温泉津温泉

Therapeutic water

Yunotsu is famous for its hot springs, very hot, and active waters to refresh your mind and body. The waters of this nostalgic little port against the Sea of Japan are historically renowned for their healthy effect on the whole body!

source of prosperity

In Yunotsu, the spring was discovered 1,300 years ago and developed the area. Between the 16th and 19th centuries, the port of Yunotsu knew a strong activity and an important prosperity thanks to the export of the silver ore of Iwami, then world-famous and required for the work in goldsmithery.

After the Iwami mine closed in 1923, activity declined. Only this small port remains as a living testimony to all these beautiful times.

To take full advantage of the benefits of this magical water, you must visit the public baths of Yunotsu. Here are two good addresses:

  • Yakushiyu

The water springs here at 45-46°, for a general water temperature of around 42°, and has a green-brown color because it contains a lot of iron. After the bath, a restroom awaits you on the panoramic terrace, with self-service coffee. From the latter, you can admire the jewels of the local heritage. Open every day from 8 am to 9 pm, from 6 am on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays.

Right next to Yakushiyu, a former public bath has been transformed into a cafe, for lunch or simply to rest while admiring this superb place. It is open from 11 am to 5 pm and is closed on Thursdays.

  • Motoyu

The water is very hot, you have to be able to withstand the 47° of the normal bath and even the 44° of what the regulars call the "lukewarm" bath! Perhaps you will only be able to slip your feet into it, no more.
