Flight from Europe to Tokyo (into Narita or Haneda airport).

Overnight on the plane, arriving the next morning in Tokyo Narita or Haneda.

Arrive in Tokyo at Narita or Haneda Airport.
Limousine bus transfer to Tokyo.
Check in to your hotel.

Night at the B Akasaka Mitsuke or equivalent hotel.

TOKYO

Visit Tokyo and the surrounding area at your leisure.

Among the options open to you, here are a few suggestions:
- The Asakusa district and Senso-ji temple
- The Tokyo Skytree, 634 metres high, and Tokyo Tower, a symbol of the city
- Ueno Park and its many museums
- The party districts of Shibuya and Shinjuku

Transfert to Tokyo Station (not included).
Shinkansen journey to Odawara included in the Japan Rail Pass (approx. 40 minutes), then change for Hakone (not included).

Enjoy the sights of Hakone. Here are a few suggestions:
- Gora-koen Park
- The open air museum of Chokoku-no-mori
Hakone-jinja shrine
- Mount Fuji from Ashi-no-ko Lake

Things to do in Hakone:
- Cross Lake Ashi aboard a (slightly kitsch) boat
- Walk along part of the old Tokaido Road, which once linked Kyoto to Edo, bordered by cedars and pines
- Go and see the old Hakone border post

- Himeji Castle or "White Heron Castle", fully restored in 2015. Train journey to Himeji covered by the Japan Rail Pass (approx. 1hr 30mins one way).

- The districts of Higashi-Chaya (Geisha district) and Nagamachi (district of the
Samurai houses, such as Nomura house)

A recommended day trip from Kanazawa :
- Shirakawa-go: village-museum, with its typical thatched residences. Bus journey from Kanazawa with the Nohi-Bus company (not included in the JRP).

KANAZAWA

- The district of Sanmachi-suji, notable for its singular dwellings, traditional shops, restaurants and sake distilleries
- Kokubun-ji, the oldest temple in Takayama

- Hida-no-sato, the Hida folk village open-air museum

Example of day trips from Takayama:
- Hike in Kamikochi, an alpine valley located in the heart of Chibu Sangaku National Park. Bus journey from Takayama with the Nohi-Bus company (not included in the JRP)
- Hida Furukawa: one of the region's hidden treasures, a delightful canalised river full of carp which flows along the middle of a road of antique white-walled barns. Train journey covered by the JRP (approx. 30 minutes one way)
