house Kaga

Gem of a machiya

Tucked around the corner from a small buddhist temple and minutes away from the Nagamachi samurai district and Saigawa river, is Kaga House. Here, you have everything you need to enjoy a fun and relaxing time Kanazawa.

The house was traditionally transformed into a modern day machiya and has a wonderful mix of east and west. The first floor has a garden, living room, kitchen and bath area. The living room has nice tatami floors and looks out from the large windows onto the Japanese garden. On the second floor you have bedrooms that will truly help you experience a real Japan. The bedrooms are blue and red, a famous pair of colors in Kanazawa distinguishing samurais from non samurais. With western beds in one room and comfortable futons in the other, not only is the house easy to relax in, but the location is great too.

The Nagamachi samurai district, downtown Katamachi, Saigawa river, and the ninja temple are all less than a ten minute walk. Kanazawa is a relatively small city, but has a lot of nice places to see and restaurants to explore. Kaga house makes all of those very easy do. We hope to have you!

Our opinion

The same designers and construction team that built Sennichi house did this house as well and it will very be hard to say which one is better. Kaga house is a convenient, tastefully done machiya in the heart of Kanazawa.

Great location and the hosts are very attentive. Highly recommend

The homestay is in a good location, very close to the busiest commercial street. Going out across the road is an ancient street full of charm, as well as various small shops. After walking down the river, the scenery is beautiful. The "manager" sent by the landlord turned out to be French. Communication in simple English and Japanese was also very easy. Sleeping upstairs in the house and sleeping downstairs, it feels pretty good, but it still feels cold in winter.

Chris was very attentive. He met us at the doorstep of the homestay, gave us a detailed introduction, and also helped to book a Michelin-made Gyokusen mansion. The two days were very comfortable. The hotel is not far from Samurai House, and there is great bakery hirami pan.

Those looking for a traditionally-styled house in Kanazawa should look no further. Absolutely beautiful home in walking distance of many restaurants, bars, and the famed samurai district, and the host was extremely communicative and even offered a handful of recommendations for things to do in town. I truly have no criticisms to give. Lovely place, lovely town!
