house Machiya

Next to the Silver Pavilion

Description

Built before the war, this vacation rental certainly is the oldest house we have available in Kyoto. The most genuinely Japanese too: go through the courtyard to discover this house made up of rooms entirely covered in tatamis and seperated by Japanese sliding paper doors. Only the Western style bedroom is an exception to the rule.

One-level house: 1 Japanese bedroom which can accommodate 2 futons, 1 dining room around a Kotatsu and a large sitting room with 6 Tatamis, 1 European bedroom with a double bed, Furo (Japanese bath), bathroom, WC, open kitchen, air conditioning.

The house is located just a few metres from the popular promenade of Kyoto's residents, the Philosopher's Path.
In a residential area near Ginkaku-ji, you will find lots of restaurants on the way back as well as a small fresh produce market, Daikokuya.

Bus stops to easily connect to the city's other tourist areas are located a few minutes away by foot from the house.

Our opinion

Machiya house offers you all the charms of a Japanese decor just a few steps from the Silver Pavilion and the Philosopher's Path.
A courtyard, rooms completely covered with tatami, Japanese sliding doors, an immersion in Japanese sophistication, a journey through time, an unforgettable experience.

Below are some pictures as well as a drawing made by © Reno and Claire Marca during their stay!
