Hakone Shrine Torii Gate A Symbol Rising from the Water

The iconic torii gate of Hakone Shrine, set on the shores of Lake Ashi, is one of the most photographed landmarks in Hakone. Standing partly in the water, it marks the entrance to the sacred shrine and symbolizes the passage into a spiritual space.

Founded in the 8th century, Hakone Shrine has long been associated with protection and good fortune. It was historically visited by powerful figures such as Tokugawa Ieyasu, who came to pray for safety and success.

Surrounded by nature, with views over the lake and nearby mountains, the site offers a peaceful and memorable atmosphere.

How to get there: Take the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise to Moto-Hakone Port, then walk a few minutes to reach the torii gate.
