Brdiging 1,300 years of history
Launched in 2022, the Aoniyoshi scenic train connects two ancient capitals of Japan: Kyoto and Nara. More than just a means of transportation, Kintetsu offers a true experience at the heart of Japanese history with the Aoniyoshi. Even its name is evocative, as it comes from a term used in poetry to refer to the city of Nara.
Luxurious facilities
Keen to showcase the riches of the Kansai region in a fun and unique way, Aoniyoshi aims to be both modern and luxurious. Inspired by the Tenpyō period (729-749), when Buddhism was introduced to Japan, its design echoes the architecture of Nara's temples, down to details such as the wooden counter in the boutique area. Its purple color is reminiscent of the tones of imperial nobility, and its four cars are full of historical references.
Inside, large “twin seats” are arranged facing each other around a side table. Ideal for couples who want to add a touch of romance to their trip. There is also a bar car where you can buy snacks, with a design inspired by Nara's tourist attractions.
Admire the landscapes that unfold from the train's large windows. The Aoniyoshi arrives directly at Nara Park, offering a view of the former imperial residence of Heijo. On the way, you will also see the Nintendo headquarters!
For travelers in small groups, the “salon” area can accommodate up to four people at the same table. Traveling alone? Reserve a “Twin seat” and enjoy a special rate for the second seat at the child price. Enjoy the space without paying full price!
Several destinations to choose from
The Aoniyoshi train connects Nara to Kyoto eight times a day (except Thursdays). The first train leaves Osaka at 9:10 a.m. on weekdays and 9:35 a.m. on weekends and holidays. It goes directly to Nara before returning to Kyoto.
The last train of the day makes the reverse journey, arriving at Osaka-Namba at 5:35 p.m. on weekdays and 5:59 p.m. on weekends and holidays. For exact timetables for each destination, please check the official website. Tickets can also be booked online.
