The concept
Created in Japan in the 1980s , the Trick Art universe is based on an original concept: playing on optical illusions and offering a space where visitors could take part in the illusion themselves.
It was in 1992 that the first Trick Art museum opened on the archipelago.
Located in Nasu in Tochigi Prefecture , the Nasu Trick Art Museum is a UFO in the world of exhibits. With its quite banal paintings and wall paintings, it seems in no way different from other museums. However, it is only when the visitors pose in front of the works that the mystery is revealed: the paintings are actually trompe l'oeil that only the pose of the one who admires them can activate.

Today, there are three 3D illusion museums in Japan , including the famous Tokyo Trick Art Museum . A museum located on the shores of Tokyo Bay, which attracts more and more curious people determined to unravel the mystery of these optical games.
Three themed rooms for more originality
The Tokyo Trick Art Museum takes you on a journey through time and space.
Composed of three themed rooms , it takes you first to the Edo period (1603-1868), where you must escape a horde of ninjas , then to the world of Yokai where the spirits of Japanese folklore await you. The third room takes on the appearance of a somewhat absurd natural history museum , since you become one with the characters in the paintings on display.
These three spaces form the heart of the exhibition and are usually very popular with visitors who leave with surprising souvenir photos!
The visit finally ends in a slightly less interactive room , where three-dimensional illusions have given way to optical illusions better known to the general public , but still just as fun to (re)discover.

The entrance costing only 1,000 yen per person (7.75 euros) , the Tokyo Trick Art Museum may be a good idea of activity to do in Odaiba during a day in the rain. Although the visit as a whole lasts only an hour , it allows you to have a good time with family or friends while discovering the unknown world of Trick Art . Notice to those who would fall in love with this unconventional art, a shop of goodies related to optical illusions is also present at the exit of the museum.

Other trompe l'oeil museums in Japan
The Tokyo Trick Art Museum is not the only Trick Art museum on the archipelago. There are also two other spaces of illusion in Japan and each has its own particularity . The Takao Trick Art Museum (located a stone's throw from Mount Takao ) has a room dedicated to ancient Egypt , and the Nasu Trick Art Museum has two very popular rooms among Trick Art enthusiasts: the Renaissance room where you can come admire a Mona Lisa a little different from that of Da Vinci , and the ''fairy tale '' room which will seduce all those who have ever dreamed of riding in a carriage or flying on a broomstick.
