Toyama Station is a major station with JR trains on the Hokuriku shinkansen, JR Takayama Main Line, Ainokaze Toyama Railway and Toyama Light Rail.

Toyama Station is located in Toyama in Toyama Prefecture. Toyama Station is served by a number of lines including the Hokuriku Shinkansen to Tokyo Station in Tokyo and Kanazawa Station in Kanazawa.
The JR Takayama Main Line runs between JR Gifu Station in Gifu city and Toyama. Journey time on the Hida Express is 3 hours and 40 minutes. Slightly quicker is to take a Shirasagi Express to Kanazawa Station and change to the Hokuriku Shinkansen.
The Japan Rail Pass and the JR Central Pass (which gives access to JR trains in the Hokuriku region as well as buses between Takayama, Shirakawa-go, and Kanazawa for 5 consecutive days) are both valid on JR trains in this area.
The Ainokaze Toyama Railway has train services from Ichiburi in Niigata Prefecture to Kurikara in Ishikawa Prefecture via Toyama Station.
The Toyama Chiho Railway Main Line is connects Dentetsu-Toyama Station (adjacent to Toyama Station) to Unazuki Onsen Station in Kurobe, Toyama Prefecture. Dentetsu-Toyama Station is the starting point to visit the spectacular Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route and Kurobe Dam.
The Toyama Light Rail Toyamako Line (Portam) is a tram (streetcar) line from Toyama-eki-kita (at Toyama Station) to Iwasehama a port town on the Japan Sea Coast at Toyama Bay.
Toyama Station is also an important bus terminus for buses to various destinations in the Kanto and Chubu regions.
The highway bus stop is outside the South Exit of Toyama Station at bus stop 1.
There are overnight buses to Tokyo and regular daytime Meitetsu buses to the Meitetsu Bus Station in Nagoya. Other express and highway buses from Toyama also run to Kyoto, Osaka, Niigata, Sendai, Nagano, Takayama, Kanazawa, Tonami, Kamioka and Shinhotaka (Gifu Prefecture).
Buses also run to Toyama Airport to the south (400 yen, 20 minutes).

Toyama city trams radiate out from Toyama Station. Route 1 (yellow) runs from Toyama Station to Minami-Toyama Station on the Toyama-Chiho Line. Route 2 (green) runs from Toyama University via Toyama Station to Minami-Toyama Station. Route 3 (red) is an inner city loop line.
Toyama Station is a major commercial and entertainment area in Toyama with a number of hotels located in the area sandwiched between the station and Toyama Castle.

Just south of Toyama Station is the city's entertainment and dining area and small red-light district. Recommended is the small, counter-style oden restaurant Oyaji (Tel: 076 431 4415), noted for its fine food, local sake and convivial atmosphere.
Fugan Canal Kansui Park is a short walk north of Toyama Station.
