When the LED lights begin to shimmer across different avenues in different cities throughout Japan, one can bet that winter has arrived. Creating a festive and whimsical atmosphere, these illuminations make for great ways to spend time on chilly nights at the end and beginning of the year.

Illuminations in Tokyo

• Shibuya Blue Cave:

December 4th to 25th, 2025

A tunnel of blue light stretching over 800 meters is a unique immersive experience. These spectacular illuminations begin in early December and plunge visitors into a dreamlike atmosphere.

• Yebisu Garden Place:

November 8th, 2025, to March 1st, 2026

Famous for its giant Baccarat chandelier, accompanied by classic, elegant decor, the space's illuminations offer a perfect blend of tradition and modernity, making it a must-see during Christmas time.

• Meguro-gawa Minna no Illumination

December 5th, 2025, to January 31st, 2026

The popular Nakameguro neighborhood is most often visited during the springtime cherry blossoms. The winter illumination emanates this same atmosphere, replacing the organic cherry blossoms with pink LEDs along the riverwalk!

• Roppongi Hills Christmas 2025

December 4th to 25th, 2025

Keyakizaka Street features a 400-meter stretch with Tokyo Tower centered in the background. Around 800,000 white and blue LED lights glow like falling snowflakes.

• Azabudai Hills Christmas Market 2025

November 22nd to December 25th, 2025

The Azabudai Hills' Central Green is illuminated, welcoming visitors daily from 11:00 to 21:00 with a glowing Christmas tree and charming market stalls. Be sure to admire the nearby Tokyo Tower in the background!

Illuminations in Osaka

• Osaka Castle Illumination 2025

November 1st, 2025, to February 1st, 2026

The city's namesake castle serves as a backdrop for this unique illumination. Featuring motifs of samurai and other imagery reminiscent of the Sengoku period.

• UMEDA SKYBUILDING Christmas 2025

December 14th to 25th, 2025

The 25-meter Christmas tree is the centerpiece of Umeda SkyBuilding's 1st-floor plaza. Surrounded by different stands, this year's theme is "THE CIRCUS OF LIGHT," with special merchandise sold on the grounds.

• UMEKITA Champagne Gold Illumination

November 6th, 2025, to February 28th, 2026

Adorned with a distinct golden glow reminiscent of the world's most famous sparkling wine, Umekita Park and parts of the Grand Green Osaka are host to one of the most beautiful illuminations in the country.

Illuminations in Kanazawa

• Kenrokuen Winter Illuminations

7th,14th,21st,28th February 2026

Deemed one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan, Kenrokuen features noteworthy events and illuminations throughout the seasons, winter included! The light-up features the garden's snow-protected pine trees and the iconic Kotoji-tōrō lantern in soft, atmospheric light. The illumination goes from 6 PM to 9 PM (last entry 8:45 PM) on illumination days.

• Omicho Market Kinpaku Kirara

October 17th to February 15th, 2026

Just outside of Omicho Market, not far from Kanazawa Station, gold leaf-adorned monuments are on display. From twilight into the night, the monuments are illuminated, providing a warm sparkle against the nighttime backdrop.

• Korinbo Tree Fantasy

November 1st, 2025 to February 15th, 2026

The trees of the Korinbo area in Kanazawa are accented by 110,000 LED bulbs. The avenue is a major shopping area for the city with the modest yet charming cityscape of central Kanazawa in the background.
