The eternal test
Cycling is one of those events that has always been present during the Olympic Games. Athletes are judged in races on their speed or riding technique. The number and type of events have undergone several changes over time.
The Munich edition in 1936 allowed the first codification with speed, kilometer, team pursuit, or time trial events. From 1986, women's road events were added, while BMX made its appearance at the Beijing Olympics in 2008.

Cycling at the next Olympic Games in 2020
The cycling events at the Tokyo Olympics will take place between July 25 and August 9, 2020. They will be divided into four categories, on two different sites, except BMX, whose competitions will be held in the Tokyo Bay area (July 30 to August 2).
The road cycling event will take place at the foot of Mount Fuji, Japan's most famous volcano and the highest point, from July 25-29.
The athletes will start from Musashi-no-Mori Park in Tokyo Prefecture and end at the Fuji Speedway racetrack. The men will have to cover 250 kilometers and the women 130 kilometers, with events that promise to be "very demanding, with a succession of climbs and descents near Mount Fuji" if we are to believe the boss of the Olympics, Toshiro Muto.
When you know that the drop will be 5,000 meters, which is even higher than during the last world championships in Innsbruck (nearly 4,700 drops)!

The cycling events will take place during the Mount Fuji climbing season. Climbing to the top of 3,776 meters from the 5th station only takes a day, and from the top of the mountain, the entire Kanto plain can be seen at a glance. The ascent takes place day and night, whether you prefer the spectacle of dawn or sunset.

For its part, the Izu peninsula (Shizuoka prefecture) will host the mountain bike events on July 27 and 28, within the "Izu Mountain Bike Course".
These cross-country events will not be the only ones to be held in this ancestral and mythical place of ancient Japan.
The Izu velodrome, located 120 kilometers from the capital, will be the scene of the track cycling events between August 3 and 9.

the Keirin , a two-kilometer race where opponents stay behind a hare until around 700 meters from the finish before speeding up
the American race, a race with a maximum distance of 50 kilometers contested by teams of 2 cyclists who take turns
the omnium, which is a set of four different types of races (elimination race, points race, etc.) taking place over one day
the team pursuit where two teams start from opposite points of the track, to catch up with the opposing team
individual and collective speed events
Izu Beaches
The Izu Peninsula is particularly renowned for its hot springs, or onsens. As for the beaches, the region is also particularly spoiled, with in particular the very famous Shirahama whose white sand attracts many tourists during the summer season.
