Neighborhoods Honganji

Spirit

Just opposite Kyoto Station, the Honganji district overflows with little jewels which are often overlooked by tourists. Take some time out to wander around this district and discover its ancient side, with the Honganji temples and the Shosei-en garden; and its modern side around Kyoto Station.

Pluses

• A district with easy public transport access (the first streets of the district are opposite Kyoto Station)
• A district with an ancient side (Honganji temples, Shosei-en garden), and a modern side (tower and Kyoto’s central station)
• Many attractions (restaurants and bars, public baths, bicycle hire, museums)
• A natural side: along the Takase canal (with cherry trees in blossom during the springtime) and the Kamogawa river

Minuses

A district which doesn’t have much going on in the evening, except around the station.

Transport

• Several bus services at the station and on the avenue of Horikawa
• Metro: Karasuma line, “Kyoto” or “Gojo” stations
