The Tohoku Shinkansen line offers a high frequency of services between Koriyama and Fukushima. Generally, there are between 2 and 4 Shinkansen trains per hour during the day, and even more during peak hours. The "Yamabiko" and "Nasuno" services are the most common for this route, ensuring regular stops between these two cities. We suggest checking real-time schedules on railway apps or at the stations for precise planning. The trains are designed for comfort, even for short journeys, with spacious seats and space for small luggage. For bulky luggage, we recommend using dedicated compartments or opting for a baggage delivery service (Takuhaibin) if necessary.

For this journey, we primarily recommend the train. Travelers can choose between JR (Japan Railways) Tohoku Shinkansen services or JR local trains on the Tohoku Main Line. Japanese trains are renowned for their exemplary punctuality and cleanliness. Koriyama and Fukushima stations are well-connected hubs, facilitating transfers.

The Tohoku Shinkansen is undoubtedly the fastest way. The journey takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes with Shinkansen services (such as Yamabiko or Nasuno). In comparison, local trains generally take between 40 and 50 minutes to cover the same distance. We advise checking specific Shinkansen timetables as some faster services (like Hayabusa) may not stop at these two stations.

The cost of a local train ticket between Koriyama and Fukushima is approximately 860 yen for an unreserved seat. For the Shinkansen, the price of an unreserved ticket is approximately 2,200 to 2,800 yen, including the basic fare and the Shinkansen supplement.
