SIM card for unlimited mobile data in Japan

With a Japan Data SIM card, you can browse the internet, use social media, make online reservations, and use map applications while traveling in Japan. Our Japan Data SIM Card will keep you connected to the internet using your own personal phone and it is available for 8, 16, and 31 days of use.

The price of our Japan Data SIM Card varies depending on the type of plan you choose. Typically, prices range from 2,000 JPY to 4,500 JPY for a one-month plan.

To purchase a Japan SIM card, you will only need your full name and the address you wish to be delivered. No other document is required when you buy your Japan SIM Card online with Japan Experience.

You can activate your SIM card as soon as you arrive at your airport terminal in Japan. After inserting the SIM card into your device, it needs to be configured before you can use it.

To activate your Japan SIM card, follow the instructions provided: Check out the activation guide here. Typically, you need to insert the SIM card into your smartphone or tablet, enter a PIN code, and configure your device's network settings.

Please note: Our SIM Card is a data-only SIM card and it does not enable incoming or outgoing voice calls nor does it enable SMS or MMS.

• Is my mobile phone compatible?

The SIM card is compatible with all devices no matter if you are using Android smartphones, iPhones, or Ipads. 

Important : Currently our sim cards are not compatible with all models of Google Pixel.

Caution: your phone must be unlocked. If you do not know whether or not it is unlocked, please contact your service provider ahead of time to check.

• What is the internet speed? Will I have unlimited access?

There is no speed limitation. It is based on the best-effort theoretical maximum speed.

The maximum usable period of this product is 8, 16 days, or 31 days from the following day of your first access to the network.

Please notice that due to the network provider's fair usage policy, if you use a large amount of data on your device within a short period (data limit of 10 GB within 2 days), the internet speed may slow down temporarily.

• Can I make or receive calls with the SIM card?

This is a data-only sim card which means you will not be able to send or receive any voice calls via your phone number. However, you can use apps such as WhatsApp that enable the use of voice calls and text messages.

• Which service provider does the card use?

Several providers exist for SIM cards in Japan, such as Docomo or Softbank. Our SIM cards use the Docomo network which covers the largest areas.

• Can I use a SIM Card outside of Japan?

No, the SIM card is for Japan only and will not work in other countries.

• Can I choose how many/which days I use the card?

The SIM card is available for a period of 8, 16, or 31 consecutive days. The period of use starts upon activation of the SIM card in your phone.

• How do I check my data usage?

Most carriers provide a mobile app or a website where you can check your data usage. You can also check your data usage through your device's settings menu.

The SIM card is refundable if it has never been used and its packaging is intact. It must be returned within one month of the purchase date. There is a 10% cancellation fee.

Another option is to rent a mobile Wi-Fi router, also known as a pocket Wi-Fi. These devices provide a portable Wi-Fi hotspot that you can carry with you and connect to multiple devices. Alternatively, you can also buy an eSIM card.

Each one has its own advantage, depending on the number of people in your group, and the length of your stay.
