Ticket - Train - Shinjuku - Kamakura

We recommend using the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line. It is the most direct and efficient method. From Kamakura Station, you can take a JR Yokosuka Line train to Ofuna Station, then make a simple transfer there to the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line bound for Shinjuku. Some JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line trains may also depart directly from Kamakura. Japanese trains are renowned for their punctuality.

The journey between Kamakura and Shinjuku typically takes between 1 hour and 1 hour 15 minutes, depending on the train type (rapid or local) and the waiting time for any potential transfer at Ofuna. The comfortable seating and efficient luggage management on JR lines are well-appreciated aspects by travelers.

Train schedules can vary slightly. Generally, the last direct trains or those with a simple transfer via the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line depart from Kamakura around 11:00 PM – 11:30 PM. We recommend checking a real-time transit app such as Google Maps, Japan Transit Planner (Jorudan), or Navitime on the day of your travel for the most accurate information regarding the last departure and any potential transfers.

The Odakyu Line does not directly serve Kamakura Station. If you wish to use the Odakyu Line to get to Shinjuku, you will first need to take a JR Yokosuka Line train (or another JR line) from Kamakura to Fujisawa Station. From there, you can take an Odakyu Enoshima Line train which will take you to Shinjuku. This option generally involves more transfers and a potentially longer travel time than directly using the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Kamakura.
