Can I take the Nozomi between Tokyo and Fukuyama with the Japan Rail Pass?

Yes, with an additional fee. Since October 2023, the Japan Rail Pass allows Nozomi trains if you purchase the NOZOMI MIZUHO add-on ticket before boarding; its price varies depending on the distance. Without the additional fee, you can take a Hikari train to Shin-Osaka or Okayama, then a Sakura or Kodama train to Fukuyama.

Do I need to reserve a space for oversized luggage between Tokyo and Fukuyama?

Only if the cumulative dimensions exceed 160 cm. Below that, no special procedure is necessary: your suitcase travels with you. For luggage with cumulative dimensions between 160 cm and 250 cm, reserving a luggage space is mandatory on the Tokaido, Sanyo, and Kyushu Shinkansen lines, but it is free and made at the time of seat booking.
