Shin-Kobe Station has a remarkable geographical feature: it is largely built into the side of a mountain. After departing Shin-Kobe towards Himeji or Hiroshima, Shinkansen trains quickly pass through the Rokko Tunnel, one of Japan's longest railway tunnels (over 16 kilometers). This underground engineering marvel was essential for efficiently connecting the Kansai region to western Japan, traversing complex mountainous terrain.
