Osaka Station, opened in 1874, served for decades as the main railway gateway to the Kansai region. However, with the arrival of the Tokaido Shinkansen in 1964, a new station, Shin-Osaka, was built specifically to accommodate high-speed trains. This decision created a short but essential link between the two stations, transforming the connecting JR Kyoto Line into one of Japan's busiest railway sections, with a train frequency comparable to that of a subway, to ensure a quick connection for Shinkansen travelers.
