The Shinkansen route between Tokyo and Akita is operated by the Akita Shinkansen line, better known as Komachi. This line is a “mini-Shinkansen,” which means that its trains, the E6 series, are designed to run on both the high-speed tracks of the conventional Shinkansen and on conventional lines after Morioka. This feature allows passengers to travel directly from a major city like Tokyo to Akita without having to change trains, providing a smooth transition between the different types of tracks.
