house Hida

Comfort at the foot of the Japanese Alps

Description

Hida House is a large machiya style house located right next to Takayama city’s Old Town. Resembling a Japanese style mountain lodge, the house is a mix of east and west, and only a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 minute walk the main sights in Takayama city.

On the first floor, there is a large living room with tatami floors and a “horigotatsu,” a traditional Japanese style table where you sit on the floor, but your feet fall freely beneath you. Past the bath and restroom is a western style kitchen looking out onto a private garden. Along with a small deck to enjoy the garden under the open sky, the kitchen allows for easy cooking and is great for couples or large groups.

On the second floor, there are three bedrooms with a mix of western style beds and futons. The master bedroom is very spacious, while the other two rooms offer privacy for the other members of your party. There is a small balcony looking out to a shrine behind the house, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea or sipping some famous Takayama sake.

Hida House is under construction until March 2017, with pictures to follow.

Our opinion

The interior of the house has very nice wooden beams and ceilings, fitting in a city famous for its woodwork. Large, comfortable, and relaxing, Hida House will be a great place to explore Takayama, Shirakawago and the surrounding areas.

Everything was smooth and perfect from the booking to the end of our stay. Hida house is not our first time staying in a traditional Japanese house, but definitely the best so far. Beautifully renovated, spotless clean and as for the location, couldn't ask a better one, everything is in walking distance, which was really convenient in the heat. Gwenn is a great host, responsive, always helpful if we had any questions. There was only one problem: the time went by too fast:) Definitely will return, thank you.

Super belle maison très confortable, tenue par une équipe qui est pleine de bons conseils et d’attentions, et très réactive. Et la ville mérite vraiment deux ou trois jours. Bref, allez-y absolument !

Super nice house and very comfortable, run by a team that is full of good advice and attention, and very responsive. And the city really deserves two or three days. In short, go absolutely!

This was our favourite place during all our stay in Japan, it is beautifully traditional but installed with hi-tech comforts like a remote to switch the light off (definitely a luxury when you are tucked into bed). Gwenn was a fantastic host and very responsive. Would recommend this place and would come back to stay if visiting Takayama again.

We really enjoyed our stay at Hida House. The host, Gwenn, was very responsive, friendly, and knowledgeable. He gave us great recommendations about places to go and places to eat. The house is very spacious and clean. The house is located in the great neighborhood, close to Old Town. We recommend this house.
Thank you, Gwenn, for your hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay in Takayama. Your recommendations are awesome, and without them, our stay wouldn’t be as good as it was. Thank you so much.

This house is beautifully nestled in a very local area offering both out of the crowds areas and also the must see attractions. The house is really clean and the best part is the heated traditional Japanese dining table. Everything you need is there except a dryer but managed to dry clothes using the heaters in the rooms. Super cool that the host provided us with local knowledge on the best places to eat and drink! Would definitely go back here!
