house Hida

Comfort at the foot of the Japanese Alps

Description

Hida House is a large machiya style house located right next to Takayama city’s Old Town. Resembling a Japanese style mountain lodge, the house is a mix of east and west, and only a 10 minute walk to the station and a 5 minute walk the main sights in Takayama city.

On the first floor, there is a large living room with tatami floors and a “horigotatsu,” a traditional Japanese style table where you sit on the floor, but your feet fall freely beneath you. Past the bath and restroom is a western style kitchen looking out onto a private garden. Along with a small deck to enjoy the garden under the open sky, the kitchen allows for easy cooking and is great for couples or large groups.

On the second floor, there are three bedrooms with a mix of western style beds and futons. The master bedroom is very spacious, while the other two rooms offer privacy for the other members of your party. There is a small balcony looking out to a shrine behind the house, perfect for enjoying a cup of tea or sipping some famous Takayama sake.

Hida House is under construction until March 2017, with pictures to follow.

Our opinion

The interior of the house has very nice wooden beams and ceilings, fitting in a city famous for its woodwork. Large, comfortable, and relaxing, Hida House will be a great place to explore Takayama, Shirakawago and the surrounding areas.

The house extremely satisfied my expectation! Very clean and nice decorated, everything is warmly considered. I will definitely recommend to friends who plan to travel in Takayama! The house host Gwenn is pretty nice and prepared lots of travel recommendations which is super valuable for us. Thank you, Gwenn

Gwenn, thanks for the warm welcome to Takayama. We enjoyed our stay here and went to many of your recommendations. We were a bit sad there wasn't more snow but we were glad went on the walk to the castle ruins where we got lots of the shift and a great snow fight. the house was great, nice and cosy. Thanks again.

Spacious house with traditional charm on the outside but modern inside. Comfortable beds & fantastic shower. Directions to the house, restaurants & information re sights to see we’re accurate & much appreciated. House is a short 10 min walk from station & 10 min walk to town centre of traditional area. Host was excellent & prompt to deal with. Would stay again.

Although our stay was short we really enjoyed the house and Takayama. Your list for food and drink places was detailed and excellent, we visited quite a few. The house was in wonderful condition and we had all the amenities we needed. You were a fantastic host and thank you for your warm welcome. We really wheel it here, hope to come back one day. Au revoir, Sayonara, merci, Arigatou.
Thank you so much.
