Escape the busy Tokyo metropolis with a side trip through the countryside!

After a calm, crowd-free journey, you can hop on a bus from Mafuji Station to the more well-known Nikko, also located in Tochigi Prefecture.

One of Japan’s World Heritage Sites, this shrine pays homage to the Edo Bakufu’s 200-year reign and its first Shogun, Tokugawa Ieyasu.

While you’re in the area, you can also experience some great wagyu, or special Japanese beef. The area is known for Joshu wagyu. Enjoy it “yakiniku” style or as a steak.
