house Kenroku

Traditional machiya-style Japanese house

Conveniently located only five minutes on foot from Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle, and 10 minutes on foot from Higashi Tea District, Kenroku House is a great place from which to experience Kanazawa. Nestled on a quiet street that feels like the Japan of old, this house offers tradition and comfort that will make a couple or family feel right at home.

As you step into the house, your feet will feel beautiful tatami mats as your gaze is drawn to the private garden behind the house. Relaxing at the western-style kitchen table viewing the garden will refresh the tired traveler. Upstairs are two spacious tatami rooms, elegant sliding Japanese paper doors, and plenty of warm sunlight.

This house's spacious 100 sq. meters has both traditional and western style flooring that create a warm sense of comfort. Completely renovated, the house has air conditioning, a kitchen, bath, and plenty of space to just relax. Inside and out, the house is as convenient as it is comfortable. Go for a walk around beautiful Kanazawa, or take the bus that stops less that 5 minutes from the house, and you can get to the station, the Samurai District, Omicho Fish Market, or downtown all within less than 20 minutes.

Gorgeous house, perfect location and great tips from Chris the host. Such a great neighbourhood to be in. Highly recommend this place. It is a little on the chilly side in winter, but that’s the only issue.

Chris is a great host who can always think one more step ahead of us. Location is perfect for visiting the most famous sightseeing spots. We had our NYE dinner at the house and the fully equipped kitchen perfectly helped.

Love the house! It’s traditional but also has a touch of modern furniture which makes it homey. Well equipped with all the heater / aircond, Kotatsu, warm carpet and even a little heater in the bathroom which is a huge help because we come in winter time. Chris is also very helpful. He shows us the big city map, recommended the food and places to visit. The house is big too so you can stay comfortably. Thank you again for everything ;)
Thanks Chris! We had wonderful time at Kenrokuen house :) a good & enjoyable experience for all of us especially the kids.”

This little Japanese house located in a peaceful neigbourhood is perfect for our family of 4. It is just 4 mins walk from Kenrukuen Garden. The autumn color of the small maple tree at the outer court matched the cozy interior so immaculately that our hearts melted the moment we stepped in. The interior looks freshly renovated and perfectly clean. Our host, Valentine, was extremely helpful. She gave us a spectacular briefing of what we can do in Kanazawa in 5 mins, followed by a gift of a Kanazawa map that has her very personalised scribblings. The beds are clean and cozy. The bathrooms and kitchen were also very clean and well equipped with everything you need. The Kotatsu kept us warm as we wine down after 2 eventful days. The location is just 3 min walk from the nearest JR bus Kenruku Garden bus stop that takes us to Kanazawa station. Buses come between 1-3 times per hr from 7.27am to 7.27pm. The journey to Kawanazawa station and back is about 15 mins. We had a awesome time staying here! Special thanks to Valentine and Chris for being wonderful hosts and offering us so much help and advices. We received exceptional service from you and were truly delighted with the stay!
