house Kenroku

Traditional machiya-style Japanese house

Conveniently located only five minutes on foot from Kenrokuen Garden and Kanazawa Castle, and 10 minutes on foot from Higashi Tea District, Kenroku House is a great place from which to experience Kanazawa. Nestled on a quiet street that feels like the Japan of old, this house offers tradition and comfort that will make a couple or family feel right at home.

As you step into the house, your feet will feel beautiful tatami mats as your gaze is drawn to the private garden behind the house. Relaxing at the western-style kitchen table viewing the garden will refresh the tired traveler. Upstairs are two spacious tatami rooms, elegant sliding Japanese paper doors, and plenty of warm sunlight.

This house's spacious 100 sq. meters has both traditional and western style flooring that create a warm sense of comfort. Completely renovated, the house has air conditioning, a kitchen, bath, and plenty of space to just relax. Inside and out, the house is as convenient as it is comfortable. Go for a walk around beautiful Kanazawa, or take the bus that stops less that 5 minutes from the house, and you can get to the station, the Samurai District, Omicho Fish Market, or downtown all within less than 20 minutes.

I highly recommend Kenroku House as an excellent place to stay. The house is exactly as described, clean, and a great combination of a traditional old style Japanese home with some sensitive modern touches. The beds are comfortable. The house is well equipped and well located, close to the older part of town and the beautiful Kenrokuen garden. Chris went above and beyond at check in, informing us of all that Kanazawa and Kenroku House has to offer, and also helping us when needed. We loved our stay here.

A little piece of Kanazawa. Everything is thought of. A true Japanese experience.

Lovely traditional house in a great spot super close to gardens and castle. Well equipped with loads of space and heaps of local tips from the host. Highly recommended.

This place is perfect for a group stay or family stay who wishes to experience a true japanese lifestyle. The house can be a bit drafty during winter, which was when we went, but the heater was enough for the living rooms and the bedrooms. Amenities were great, there was even a first aid kit. All in all, it was an experience I definitely would come back to given the opportunity.

Everything was awesome and host (Cedric) was extremely helpful. The only criticism was that it wasn't very clear what would happen if we were a little early or late for arrival, whether we be able to access the house if we were say half an hour early.
