Mountains cover over 60% of the Japanese territory. No wonder there are so many ski resorts in the land of the rising sun!
Surprising for some travelers, skiing is a popular activity in Japan. For lovers of winter sports, the Japanese Alps are full of ski areas. The resorts offer many après-ski activities, such as relaxing in the hot springs , enjoying the local cuisine and of course karaoke, to name just a few.
Nozawa is a great resort town, with a traditional atmosphere, known for its onsen. Hakuba, the most popular resort town, has 12 ski areas. Finally, Shiga Kogen is undoubtedly the largest resort town in Japan with no less than 21 ski areas.
