Like an air from the end of the world
Famous for its chalk lighthouse dating from the Meiji era and for being one of the few places from which you can admire the sunrise and sunset over the sea, Cape Rokkosaki is one of the most beautiful points of view of the Noto Peninsula!
Cape Rokkosaki Lighthouse
Cape Rokkosaki is located on top of a hill, not far from the small fishing village of Noroshi. To get there, you will need to put on good shoes and then climb to the cape via an old path made up of 150 steps. If you want to go there as a family, don't worry: the journey is quite short (about ten minutes) and is more like a sporty walk than a real hike.
Arriving at the top of the stairs, you will find a fairly large plateau with a sign indicating the distance to different port cities such as Vladivostok, Pusan, or Shanghai, as well as a charming lighthouse made of chalk and dating from the era Meji (1868-1912). It looks almost miniature, but its small size is explained by the fact that the cape overlooks the sea enough for the lighthouse to fulfill its function perfectly from its 12-meter height.
Be careful, however, to inform yourself well in advance if you wish to visit it: the lighthouse operates autonomously and without human intervention, it is only open to the public a handful of days a year.

The Land of the Rising Sun... and Setting
The geographical location of Cape Rokkosaki, surrounded by the sea to the east and west and at the northern end of the Noto Peninsula, gives it an atmosphere of the end of the world and makes it one of the few places in the world from where you can admire sunrises and sunsets over the sea.

What to do nearby?
Still little known to foreign tourists, Ishikawa Prefecture and the Noto Peninsula are full of amazing places to discover.
We have therefore prepared a shortlist of visits and activities to do in the vicinity of Cape Rokkosaki and its lighthouse:
- just 2 kilometers from Cape Rokkosaki, you can go to the Sky Bird aerial observatory from where you can observe the coasts, still a bit wild, of the Noto peninsula. Admission costs 500 yen ($4/€3.75) for adults and 100 yen ($.90/.80€) for children.
- the city of Suzu, also located a few kilometers from the cape, has a magnificent sanctuary dedicated to the protection of the coasts and port towns and villages, as well as a friendly pottery museum where you can admire traditional pottery from the region and learn about the role they have played in the economy of Ishikawa Prefecture throughout history. Admission costs 310 yen ($2.50/2.25€) for adults and 150 yen ($1.25/1€) for children.

- finally, about twenty kilometers away, you can visit the Enden salt factory and discover the amazing agehama technique for harvesting salt, which is far removed from the canal system of our salt marshes. This visit could also delight your stomach and your taste buds since the salt factory offers different foods prepared with the salt produced on site. Admission costs 100 yen ($.90/.80€) for adults and 50 yen ($.35/30€) for children.
