Enjoy a private day-long guided tour of Takao, a breath of fresh air just a few minutes' journey from Kyoto, in the midst of an unspoilt and wild natural setting, visit Miyajima, island paradise, and explore the island of Kyushu with its magnificent beaches.

Without forgetting Yakushima, where you will be plunged into the Ghibli universe for a day-long guided visit of the exceptional forest which inspired the film "Princess Mononoke".

Flights:

The departure and end dates of the tour concern your flight and arrival from/to your departure country.

Most flights will require one transfer (less than 5 hours) in Asia or the Gulf States before landing in Tokyo.

Accommodation:

The basic price includes one room for 2 people in 3* equivalent hotels.

Single room: If a triple room is not available, a single room supplement may be required for any booking with an odd number of participants.
Please note that the single supplement will be applicable in all of the accommodation except the accommodation in Miyajima and Yakushima. For traditional accommodation, there are no single rooms but there are spacious bedrooms which can sleep up to 5 people. There are also some specific aspects concerning stays in ryokans. Please see the Miyajima stage.

In Japan, a high-density country where everything is more compact, the 3* hotels are good quality but the rooms can be quite small (12 to 24m2) depending on the hotel. For more comfort and space, don't hesitate to contact us for a quote with 4* hotels instead.

The rooms for 2 people in western-style hotels have 2 separate single beds (twin rooms) as standard. Contact us to request a double bed; there is no supplementary charge but we cannot guarantee availability. Note that double bed rooms are smaller in size than twin rooms.

TOKYO - KYOTO - MIYAJIMA - FUKUOKA - YAKUSHIMA - FUKUOKA

0

Flight to Tokyo.

Overnight on the plane, arriving the next morning at Tokyo.

1

TOKYO

Arrive at Tokyo at Narita or Haneda Airport.

Transfer to central Tokyo by shared limousine bus.

Note: The limousine bus shuttle leaves from the airport and stops either in front of your hotel, or at a stop between 1-15 minutes walk from your hotel.

This transfer is not a private transfer with reception. If you wish to be met personally at the airport, you can choose our "airport reception" option for an additional fee.

In rare cases, depending on the arrival time of your flight, it may be that the limousine bus service is unavailable. In such situations a public transport alternative, the price of which would be included in the tour package, will be offered instead. A detailed explanation of the alternative travel route, with pictures, would be included in your travelogue.

Note: Any breakfasts not included in your tour package can be added at the hotel reception desk upon arrival. However, in Tokyo and Kyoto, you will find many cafés near your hotel serving better value and often tastier breakfasts than those of hotels, which sometimes have restrictive service hours.

- The temples and shrines of Nikko, in the heart of the forest (approx. 2hrs one way by train).
- The city of Kamakura and its monumental bronze Buddha statue (approx. 1hr one way).
- Hakone where you can bask in the hot springs at the foot of Mount Fuji (approx. 1hr 30mins one way)

TOKYO

For your last dinner in Tokyo, try "Kaitenzushi" (conveyor belt sushi) for a fun and tasty meal!

Journey to Kyoto by Shinkansen (approximately 2hrs 30mins, covered by your JR Pass).

A breath of fresh air as you head alongside a crystal-clear stream in an unspoilt and wild setting. Explore this jewel in the crown, with a temple which has been classified as a world heritage site, an site which is still off the beaten tourist track despite being so close to Kyoto (20-minute bus journey, approximately 3€ per person).

KYOTO

Possible day trips from Kyoto:

- Nara, the first capital of Japan. Visit its ancient buildings, classified as Unesco World Heritage sites, such as Todaiji temple or Kasuga Taisha shrine, and buy some shika-sembei, food for the fallow deer which roam freely within the city park. (30 to 45 minutes).

- Fushimi-Inari Taisha, a must-see shrine in southern Kyoto. Wander through the tunnels made of hundreds of red torii gates found at this incredible shrine. (approx. 5 minutes).

- Mount Hiei, providing access to Enryakuji temple, which was one of the most powerful temples in Japan and remains one of the greatest Buddhist sites in the country (30mins from Kyoto using public transport)

- Arashiyama, to the west of Kyoto, for a walk among the huge bamboos or along the Katsura river

KYOTO

KYOTO - MIYAJIMA

Journey to Miyajima by train, then by ferry (approximately 2hrs 45mins, covered by the JR Pass).

Check-in at your ryokan (traditional Japanese accommodation).

Discover Miyajima Island:
- Itsukushima-jinja shrine and its huge red gate (ootorii) which rises from the sea. (Note: Work is being carried out on the ootorii for an indefinite period)
- Daisho-in temple
- The magnificent park of Momijidani – the "valley of maples". Stunning in fall!

For hikers and for those who enjoy exceptional panoramas, walking up Mount Misen will be worth your while. There are three trails to choose from to reach the top of the mountain and enjoy the breath-taking view!

MIYAJIMA

Traditional Japanese dinner (included) and night in your ryokan.

In a 3*** ryokan, you will sleep on comfortable futons placed on the tatami and you will have a private bathroom.
In a 4**** ryokan you will either sleep on futons or on western-style beds in the middle of a traditional tatami room and you will have a private bathroom.

MIYAJIMA - FUKUOKA

Breakfast in your ryokan.

In the morning, we recommend a visit to Hiroshima:
- The Memorial Peace Park and its museum.
- Shukkei-en garden, an unspoilt garden which reveals new surprises as you walk along its pathways.
- Ikari shrine, built long ago by sailors in honour of the god of the sea.

Then, take the train to Fukuoka (approximately 1hr, covered by your JR Pass).

FUKUOKA

FUKUOKA - YAKUSHIMA

Breakfast at your hotel.

In the morning, self-guided visit of Fukuoka, the capital of Kyushu, where you will see a different side of Japan, more distinctly Asian and far removed from Tokyo.

The essentials:
- The lively districts of Nakasu and Tenjin with their yatai
- The famous Fukuoka Tower, where you can look out over the finest view of the city
- Shofoku-ji Temple, the oldest Zen temple in Japan

Early in the afternoon, transfer to Fukuoka airport by public transport. All details with photos can be found in your travel guide. Approximately 5 minutes, the price of your journey is covered by your prepaid transport card.

Then the flight to Yakushima (approximately 1hr).

Transfer from Yakushima airport to your accommodation by bus (extra cost of approximately 16€ per person, details of the journey can be found in your travel guide).

YAKUSHIMA

YAKUSHIMA

Yakushima is one of the essential places for hikers and lovers of unspoilt and wild natural areas to visit: with its thousand-year-old cedars which are famous for being the oldest trees in Japan, a large part of the island's plant heritage has received UNESCO classification. Its forest is also famous for having inspired the one featured in the film "Princess Mononoke" by Ghibli studios.


Included: A day's walk through the forest with Maxime, your English-speaking guide
He will adapt this private trip throughout the day depending on what you want to see and how far you want to walk (not forgetting weather conditions as well) to help you explore the island.

Please note that this activity may have to be cancelled due to weather conditions, in which case you will be reimbursed.

YAKUSHIMA

Make the most of this afternoon to explore the delightful scenery around Fukuoka:
- You will love the walks along the magnificent beaches around Fukuoka which can be easily reached from the city, like the one to Nokonoshima or Itoshima (details in your travel guide)
- Enjoy the magnificent view of Niji-no-matsubara, "the rainbow pine forest, where more than a million pine trees grow beside the sea".

FUKUOKA
