In the heart of bustling Tokyo, discover the peaceful havens and green areas that are the gardens of Rikugien, Hama Rikyu orYoyogi park and Meiji shrine. Why not also take a trip to discover the city of Kamakura, which was once the capital of Japan. Meander through temples and shrines. Don't miss Zuisenji Zen temple and its charming stone garden.

KANAZAWA

In the early morning, depart for Kanazawa (about 4 hours by train). Spend the afternoon in the district of Nakamachi and its old Samurai homes, as well as in the Geisha and pleasure district of Higashi, and discover the exquisite Seisonkaku Villa, witness to Kanazawa's history over the years.

Take your time to wander around one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan: Kenroku-en. Its alleys will invite you to walk around. It took hundred and fifty years to create the garden symbolising the concept of ideal beauty.

KYOTO

Depart for Kyoto (1 hour and 45 minutes from Kanazawa). Get lost in the charms of the former imperial capital, strewn with countless temples and shrines. Walk around the gardens of the Kinkakuji and Ginkakuji temples and Maruyama park, meditate in the Zen gardens of the Ryoan-ji and Daitoku-ji temples. If you want, why not visit the terraces of Kiyomizu-dera temple, or the picturesque geisha area of Gion? With prior permission from the Office of Imperial Affairs, you can enter the former imperial Katsura Villa and its lavish garden, one of the most perfect examples of a garden-promenade from the 17th century.

OKAYAMA - KURASHIKI

In the morning, depart for Okayama (about 1 hour by train from Kyoto). Visit Koraku-en, which is one of the three most beautiful gardens in Japan. Later, continue in the direction of Kurashiki, whose lively district of Bikan, along the canal, testifies to the town's prosperity during the Edo period.

MIYAJIMA

Depart for the sacred island of Miyajima, considered one of the three most beautiful landscapes in Japan. The island is famous for Itsukushima shrine and its floating torii. Mount Misen offers a splendid view of the Inland Sea and its islets. Several walks are possible through the temples and the Miyajima gardens.

OSAKA

Breakfast in your ryokan. Back to modernity and urban frenzy with a trip to Osaka. This shopping and hedonistic city, resolutely turned toward the future, is a good showcase of contemporary Japan. More popular than Tokyo, Osaka is regarded as the "kitchen of Japan" and offers numerous local food specialties. Enjoy your last evening in Dotombori, a pedestrianised street brimming with neon signs, lit-up advertising screens, and excellent food.
