house Ginkakuji

An elegant and peaceful life

Authentic machiya dating to the beginning of last century, Ginkakuji house was carefully restored in 2014 by craftsmen respectful of the heritage of old Kyoto houses.
Every Japanese room, the sitting room in the entrance and the two bedrooms immerse you in an incredible aesthetic world of tatami, washi, sliding doors, mud walls, and old wooden beams. Japanese technology coexist in perfect harmony with this set, with a state of the art kitchen and bathroom.
The two miniature gardens extend the experience after a day of sightseeing. An ideal home for a restful break.

Our opinion

A perfect mix of Japanese materials-- tatami, washi, and mud walls-- and state of the art equipment, Ginkakuji House is a rare experience.

Ginkakuji House was the best place we could be during our stay in Kyoto. We loved this house for its location, size, style, gardens, equipment, care in every detail. Ginkakuji House was our home for 22 days and we will remember it forever

“We knew that this was a special house from the description and pictures, but we were not expecting it to be just about perfect! We loved the combination of traditional and modern decor, but we also really appreciated the way the layout afforded a great deal of privacy in a fairly typically dense neighborhood. The location of the house was also a plus, so close to Ginkakuji Temple as well as a lot of good places to eat local cuisine. Finally, we have to say that our liaison Clement was very helpful as well as gracious.”
