house Gion Matsubara

Close to Gion and the Kiyomizudera Temple

Description

The Gion Matsubara house is a pleasant mix of Japanese and Western comfort.

Enter the Japanese style living room with its tatami flooring where you can enjoy afternoon tea seated at the coffee table on the traditional zabuton cushions.
At night, this room also doubles as a bedroom allowing you to enjoy experience the cosy comfort of Japanese futons, making it a perfect vacation rental in Japan.

If you are tired of eating out you can also make the most of the fully equipped kitchen and take your meal in the bright Western style living room.

In addition to the Japanese room, the mezzanine can accommodate a 3rd traveler. Keep in mind that the stairs are not suitable for small children.

Ground floor: Western living room, Japanese room that doubles up as a bedroom with Japanese bedding (futons for 2 people), small kitchen, Japanese bathroom (shower and furo, Japanese deep bathtub) and toilet.

Mezzanine: Japanese bedding (futon) for 1 person.

Our Matsubara house is located in the Gion neighborhood, famous for being one of the best place in Japan to see Geishas, in the labyrinth of the small alleyways, next to Matsubara street that leads to the Kiyomizudera Temple, symbol of Kyoto city.

A little further away is the Kenninji Temple, where the traditions of the Zen Buddhism are perpetuated. Walk along the paved paths of the temple and discover the beautiful and busy Hanamikoji Street, with its traditional houses, luxurious restaurants and teahouses that welcome wealthy customers every night.

Conveniently located, the house is close to all amenities, public transportation and a supermarket.

Our opinion

A cosy nest in a neighborhood that offers many opportunities to discover traditional Kyoto, the Gion Matsubara House welcomes you in a typical Japanese environment. The scent of tatami and subdued lighting will bring you calm and relaxation for a pleasant stay in Japan.

Deuxiéme séjour à Kyoto et toujours le même émerveillement. Ville magique où il y a toujours quelque chose à découvrir.
Avons adoré cette petite maison quoique un peu fraîche à cette saison.
Merci à William pour ses conseils et son accueil.

We had a wonderful time in Gion. It was a bit difficult to find the place in the beginning, but it was all worth it for the wonderful house we got to stay in. It was exactly what we were hoping for in a Japanese house. And Gion is a wonderful part of the city to stay. The house is also very close to a bus station. Our Travel Angel William was incredibly helpful with everything, even when we noticed we made a mistake with our booking he helped us out where he could. Every description on how to use the kitchen and bathroom was clear and we had no problems with the appliances at all. One thing should be noted though: the room under the roof is basically unusable in summer. We were there in August and you couldn't even finish climbing up the stairs without feeling a dramatic increase in temperature. If we would go to Kyoto again, we will certainly try to get another house in Gion.
