house Takasegawa

A Japanese House

Description

Located downtown Kyoto along the Takasegawa river, this hidden haven is the perfect fit for family or couple of friends looking for a quiet, peaceful yet very convenient place of residence in Kyoto.

The property consists of a private residence coupled with a large Japanese garden, including a river and a temple-tea pavilion to visit during your stay.

The cozy & spacious private residence of 100 m2, featuring wooden materials and a beautiful minimalist Zen design, have been renovated by a team of Tokyo based architects to emphasize the quiet serenity of this historical domain, without sacrificing the comforts of a modern facility.

The house can sleep up to five persons and includes a spacious living and kitchen area as well as two independent bedrooms featuring premium hand-made Kyoto Iwata beds, two independent bath and shower rooms with amenities, and a free car parking in front of the residence. The downtown location also means it is perfectly located to access on foot Kamogawa river, the shopping district of Kawaramachi, and the famous alley of Pontocho and Gion Geisha district.

Our opinion

Dating back to the late Edo Period, this location was formerly the property of a powerful clan of samurai and still feature nowadays a stunning historical Japanese garden of 816 m2 with a truly unique Tea House inside, both certified as cultural property and place of scenic beauty by Kyoto City.

Location

Our House is located along the Takasegawa river, 5 min by foot from the subway Shiyakusho-mae Station, and a short 10-15 min drive by taxi from Kyoto station.

What one has in Kousei-in is a chance to remove onself from modernity, observe the past, and then return to this world renewed. Very Japanese, very unique, very Kyoto.
