The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims commemorates the victims of the 1945 atomic bombing in a modern and visually breathtaking museum.

The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims is adjacent to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum in Nagasaki and is a truly superb and fitting memorial to the victims of the atomic bombing of the city on August 9, 1945, which killed 73,884 people, injured another 74,909 and later caused the deaths of a further 70,000 victims from radioactivity-related illnesses.
The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims opened in 2003 and offers a beautiful and solemn space for people from Japan and overseas to mourn the victims of the bombing and to pray for a peaceful world free of nuclear weapons.

The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims consists of an upper level of a sculptured water basin and two underground levels.
The B1 underground level consists of a viewing area to look down into the Remembrance Hall to consider the fateful event that took place here and an exhibition space with the memoirs of survivors written in Japanese, English, Chinese and Korean.
The B2 underground level is an atrium and prayer room for the victims containing a registry of the names of the dead and survivors who subsequently died. The illuminated pillars and registry face in the direction of the atomic bomb hypocenter.

This area also contains a library of information relating to the atomic bombing of Nagasaki, testimonials of atomic bomb survivors, photos, computer graphics and written diaries. Information on the treatment of radiation illnesses is also presented along with visitors' messages for peace and information on institutions and organizations related to peace worldwide.
Visitors pause in an anteroom before entering the main Remembrance Hall to view the rules for respectful behavior inside. Six monitors form a large video screen displaying the names and photographs of the deceased in this area.
Water, for which the victims of the bomb cried out for in their agony, is a centerpiece of the museum and its grounds.

The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall is connected to the Nagasaki Atomic Bomb Museum and adjacent to the Nagasaki City Museum of History and Folklore containing the Noguchi Yataro Art Museum.
The Nagasaki National Peace Memorial Hall is a short walk from the Hamaguchi-machi stop of street cars #1 or #3.
Buses bound for Nameshi, Togitsu, and Menoto also stop at Hamaguchi-machi. The Nagasaki Museum of History and Folklore is also close by. From here it is a short walk of about 500m uphill to the Urakami Cathedral and the Nagai Takashi Memorial Museum (Nyokodo).
