Flights:

The departure and end dates of the tour concern your flight and arrival from/to your departure country.

Most flights will require one transfer (less than 5 hours) in Asia or the Gulf States before landing in Tokyo.

Accommodation:

The basic price includes one room for 2 people in 3* equivalent hotels.

Single room: If a triple room is not available, a single room supplement may be required for any booking with an odd number of participants.

In Japan, a high-density country where everything is more compact, the 3* hotels are good quality but the rooms can be quite small (12 to 24m2) depending on the hotel. For more comfort and space, don't hesitate to contact us for a quote with 4* hotels instead.

The rooms for 2 people in western-style hotels have 2 separate single beds (twin rooms) as standard. Contact us to request a double bed; there is no supplementary charge but we cannot guarantee availability. Note that double bed rooms are smaller in size than twin rooms.

TOKYO - OSAKA - HIROSHIMA - KYOTO

Day
0

Flight to Tokyo.

Overnight on the plane, arriving the next morning at Tokyo.

1

TOKYO

Arrive at Tokyo at Narita or Haneda Airport.

Transfer to central Tokyo by shared limousine bus.

Note: The limousine bus shuttle leaves from the airport and stops either in front of your hotel, or at a stop between 1-15 minutes walk from your hotel.

This transfer is not a private transfer with reception. If you wish to be met personally at the airport, you can choose our "airport reception" option for an additional fee.

In rare cases, depending on the arrival time of your flight, it may be that the limousine bus service is unavailable. In such situations a public transport alternative, the price of which would be included in the tour package, will be offered instead. A detailed explanation of the alternative travel route, with pictures, would be included in your travelogue.

TOKYO

Night in your 3* hotel in the Akasaka or Ikebukuro district.

Note: Any breakfasts not included in your tour package can be added at the hotel reception desk upon arrival. However, in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka, you will find many cafés near your hotel serving better value and often tastier breakfasts than those of hotels, which sometimes have restrictive service hours.

TOKYO

Visit Tokyo and the surrounding area.

Among the various options open to you, here are a few suggestions:
- The Asakusa district and Senso-ji temple
- The Tokyo Skytree, 634 metres high, and Tokyo Tower, a symbol of the city
- Ueno Park and its many museums
- The party districts of Shibuya and Shinjuku

TOKYO

Included: Savour an evening meal with an English-speaking specialist who has lived in Tokyo for several years. Your guide will book a table and advise you on what to choose from the menu. They will tell you all about their life in Japan and can also give you some ideas about what to visit during the rest of your stay.

Note: You will be required to pay for transport to the restaurant. Your meal, your guide's meal and the guide's time are all included.

3

TOKYO

Included: Have a go at making several typical Japanese dishes with advice from a chef. At the end of the lesson, you will be able to relax and taste what you have made. Once you get home, you will be able to cook a few Japanese specialities for yourself!

The rest of the day is free for you to continue exploring Tokyo:
- The gardens of the Imperial Palace
- Meiji-jingu shrine
- The electric town, Akihabara

TOKYO

Free dinner and evening.

Discover Japanese gastronomy in the most Michelin-starred capital in the world.

TOKYO

A few examples of day trips possible from Tokyo:
- The temples and shrines of Nikko, in the heart of the forest (approx. 2hrs one way by train).
- The city of Kamakura and its monumental bronze Buddha statue (approx. 1hr one way).
- Hakone where you can bask in the hot springs at the foot of Mount Fuji (approx. 1hr 30mins one way)

TOKYO

Free dinner and evening.

The countless "Izakaya" (typical Japanese bars) of Tokyo await you for a beer and/or some "yakitori" (grilled chicken skewers).

TOKYO - OSAKA

Direct journey to Osaka in the shinkansen (approximately 3hrs, covered by your JR Pass).

Osaka is famous throughout the country for its fun-loving side and its very rich culinary tradition. The city has a vast range of restaurants and street food stalls to delight you!

Don't miss:
- Denden-machi, Osaka's electronics district
- Osaka's medieval castle and its parks featuring plum trees and cherry trees
- Umeda Sky Building

OSAKA

In the evening, explore the lively districts of Dotonbori, Namba and Shinsaibashi.

OSAKA - HIROSHIMA

Journey to Hiroshima on the shinkansen (approximately 1hr 30mins, covered by the JR Pass).

Explore Hiroshima and the surrounding area.

Don't miss:
- The Memorial Peace Park and its museum
- Shukkei-en garden, an unspoilt garden which reveals new surprises as you walk along its pathways
- Ikari shrine, built long ago by sailors in honour of the god of the sea

HIROSHIMA

Dinner at your leisure and night at the hotel.

The city has a vast range of gastronomic delights: from okonomiyaki to oysters, Hiroshima's specialities have some surprises in store for your taste buds!

HIROSHIMA

Breakfast at your hotel.

Essential trip from Hiroshima: Miyajima Island
- Itsukushima-jinja shrine and its huge red gate (ootorii) which rises from the sea. (Note: Work is being carried out on the ootorii for an indefinite period)
- Daisho-in temple
- The magnificent park of Momijidani – the "valley of maples". Stunning in fall!

HIROSHIMA

Dinner at your leisure and night at the hotel.

HIROSHIMA - KYOTO

Breakfast at the hotel.

High-speed train journey to Kyoto included in the Japan Rail Pass (approximately 2hrs).
You can choose to stop off at Himeji to visit the famous White Heron Castle.

Free evening and night at your 3* hotel in the city centre, Gion district or near the central station.

Included: A private guided tour of the city in English.
You will go to Nishiki market - the largest in the city - where you will find the finest ingredients for cooking Japanese dishes.

The rest of the day is free for you to continue exploring Kyoto:
- The zen garden in Ryoanji, a famous dry landscape garden
- Kinkaku-ji (Golden Pavilion) and Ginkaku-ji (Silver Pavilion)
- The traditional Gion district
- Kiyomizu-dera, the incredible thousand-year-old temple that overlooks the city

KYOTO

Included: Set out on the Tea Road on this day-long guided visit!

This day is devoted to exploration of the fascinating world of tea, the mythical drink of Japan, Asia and the world. An original visit off the beaten tourist track where you can explore an authentic and ancestral region.

You will set off in a minibus with your guide and you will have the chance to admire some magnificent scenery including paddy fields, woods and rivers. You will stop off to visit tea producers where you will, of course, be able to do some tasting and make some purchases!

KYOTO

KYOTO

Included: Visit to sake distillery and sake tasting session in Kyoto (3hrs)

Discover all of the secrets of sake, the traditional Japanese alcoholic drink. You will start by visiting the sake brewery where you will be able to witness the traditional brewing processes which have been handed down through the generations. After that, during a tasting session, you will have chance to learn about the unique characteristics of the different varieties of sake. Finally, there will be an opportunity to try some traditional Japanese "otsumami" snacks and discover how the taste of sake can completely change depending on what it is served with.
Included in price: Snacks and drinks, entrance to the distillery and museum, sampling of 10 varieties of sake.

Included: Set out to explore the Japanese countryside and local products during this day-long guided visit!

Your English-speaking guide will take you to the heart of rural Japan where some magnificent scenery awaits you. This day will also be an opportunity to sample some local products when you have lunch in a small riverside restaurant.
