If Japan was already on your list of next destinations, now there's a new reason to set course for the archipelago: the world's first Pokémon airport! On July 7, 2026, Noto Satoyama Airport will become Noto Satoyama Pokémon With You Airport, a transformation in the colors of the franchise that will last until September 2029. What can we expect? Japan Experience tells you all about it.
Is there a Pokemon to save Ishikawa?
From July 7, 2026 to September 30, 2029, Noto airport will become the Pokemon With You airport, a partnership between ishikawa Prefecture and the Pokemon With You Foundation, to support tourism and put a smile back on the region's face after the Noto Peninsula earthquake in 2024. For the occasion, the prefecture has pulled out all the stops, transforming the entire airport to offer an immersive experience from the moment travelers arrive.
An airport entirely dedicated to Pokémon
Pokémon fans, you're in for a treat! As you enter the atrium, you'll be greeted by a giant Pikachu balloon, surrounded by Flight-type Pokémon-themed decorations. 111 Pokémon of this type discovered up to May 2026 will be scattered throughout the airport, offering fans a veritable treasure hunt! The arrivals hall will also feature artworks supporting the reconstruction, inspired by Noto's landscapes, as well as monumental statues of Pikachu, Posipi and Negapi.
But the experience isn't limited to photos! The panoramic terrace, dubbed "Pikachu Village", plunges you into a rural landscape, populated by countless Pikachu, inspired by traditional Satoyama. As you explore the grounds, you'll also be able to unlock never-before-seen videos on your smartphone, including a story entitled "Fly, Draby!", which follows the adventures of a Draby dreaming of flying away.

Who said the adventure stops at the terminal? Buses in Pokémon colors will take passengers across the Noto peninsula, to themed tourist sites such as the Pokémon foot bath in Wakura or the "Nymphali with LOVE" monument in Suzu town.
As a reminder, Noto airport is accessible via Tokyo-Haneda airport and does not serve international flights. Above all, it serves as a gateway to the Noto peninsula and its main attractions:
- Wajima, famous for its morning market and lacquer crafts.
- Suzu, at the northeastern tip of the peninsula, with its spectacular coastal scenery.
- Nanao, gateway to Nanao Bay.
- Wakura Onsen, one of Japan's most famous spas!
- Chirihama Nagisa Driveway, a beach where you can drive your car on the sand.
- Shiroyone Senmaida, the famous rice terraces overlooking the Sea of Japan.
