Don't get mixed up
Looking for an original gift? A quaint souvenir? The old-fashioned store run by the Fujimoto couple as an introduction to the art of Nihon-ga, traditional Japanese painting.
Kneeling behind a coffee table, a sheet of paper or a tube of color in her hand, Mrs Fujimoto accompanies her "irasshaimase" (Welcome!) With a kindly smile. In the midst of papers and colored minerals, silence and scents take hold of the customers. Like in a museum, Fujimoto exhibits calligraphy tools and rows of jars with colorful pigments in small display cases. On a shelf, a hundred varieties of brushes, watch over the place, lined up, hung brush down on hooks ...lines, the calligraphy of Kyoto artists, are born in this shop, dating back over a century.
A world of colors!
Hidden like treasures, many objects are not visible. Conversation can sometimes open doors and drawers. But the hand crafted powders and palettes of natural pigments are well exposed and offer an explosive cocktail of colors. For the format? Lay out your art on the sheets of handmade paper sold here.
