An original park
Established in 2013, the Meguro Sky Garden is a very unique park in Tokyo. Fans of urban design and town planning in general will appreciate its originality. It is built above the junction between two motorways (to be precise the intersection between the large Shuto Expressway and the C2 circular lane) with the primary purpose of disguising it. It takes the form of a long rooftop, with the appearance of a circular loop.
With a beautiful area of 7,000 m2, it's not far from Shibuya and the district of Meguro. In the middle of the formed loop is, among other things, a tennis court. The park rises up to 35 meters above street level, a feat quite unique in its kind. The impression of a suspended park in the city is surprising, with visitors able to overlook the surrounding buildings. This makes it possible to isolate yourself from the street and the incessant bustle of Tokyo, for a well deserved natural break.

A garden to relax in
The entrance of Meguro Sky Garden isn't necessarily easy to find if you don't know where to look. From the outside, it looks like a huge concrete building that could be taken for a large concert hall. To access the garden, look for a small promenade planted with trees near a large supermarket: there, a large staircase provides access to the entrance. Then just enjoy the walk following the loop. You can also take an elevator (located near the post office) that will take you directly to the 9th floor of the building to the garden.

The park offers different spaces crisscrossed with small paths. You will find a peaceful Japanese garden, play areas for children and even a small bamboo plantation. More than 1,000 trees have been planted: pine and cherry trees are the most impressive, especially during the hanami, during which the garden is awash with pink. Vines have also been planted, as well as many flower beds. Benches along the pathways will allow you to stop for a moment and enjoy the calm. There are also large lawns that allow you to admire the sunset, or enjoy a picnic, one of the favorite activities of the Japanese.

Another advantage of the garden: entry is free. It's open from 7am to 7pm (5pm in winter). And after exploring the Sky Garden, we suggest you enjoy another walk: wander up along the nearby Meguro river, to Naka-Meguro station. Along the river you can enjoy the sakura in spring, and the many small shops and cafes offer a unique atmosphere...
