Autumn Illuminations 2025
From October 25 to December 29, 2025, the Sagano line is decked out in a thousand lights for the Fantasy Train of Light, an annual event that brings the valley's momiji to life. For the occasion, 1,000 lights illuminate the banks of the Hozugawa River, transforming the already grandiose landscape into a fairytale setting.
To enjoy the illuminations, board after 4.30pm from Torokko Saga or Torokko Arashiyama stations. From the terminus at Kameoka, take the train in the opposite direction to prolong the magic, or walk to Umahori station for a direct journey to kyoto Central Station.
Tickets can be purchased in advance on the official event website. Tickets are also available at Torokko Saga and Torokko Arashiyama stations, but in extremely limited quantities. Two types of carriages are available: open-air carriages and closed carriages with windows (more comfortable, but to be booked at extra cost).
