Tokyo is a wonderful city, but huge. While visiting alone can be fun, it can sometimes get lonely during meal times or in the evening. For those traveling alone, there are places to go to fill the void.
- Moomin Café, mellow coffee
Kasuga 1-1-1, Bunkyo-ku. On the Marunouchi Line, get off at Korakuen. Open every day from 8:30am to 10pm.
- Hitori Yakuniku, BBQ for one
Going to a crowded restaurant and eating alone while surrounded by groups can make you feel uncomfortable. The Hitori Yakiniku near Ueno is a restaurant especially for singles. It invites guests to try yakiniku, meat cooked on a grill in Japanese style, without worrying about others looking at you. Here, each customer has their own little booth. It's a little cramped, but it's fun and the meal is affordable.

- 1kara, Karaoke for one
Karaoke is a favorite Japanese activity. But singing all alone in a big empty room isn't much fun. Now, karaoke chains like 1kara, have invented hitori karaoke, karaoke for one. Each client has their own private space to sing their lungs out. As in conventional karaoke chains, there is a microphone, a screen, and a button to call the waitress, but also headphones, so as not to disturb the neighbors.
There are several rooms in Shibuya, Shinjuku and Kanda. Open 24/7. Between 240円 and 450円 per half hour.
