Japan's largest TeamLab museum
It's the latest thing; you won't want to miss this autumn! Presented as a large-scale museum covering more than 10,000 square meters, TeamLab Biovortex Kyoto will be the largest TeamLab museum in Japan. While the concept has yet to be defined, the studio intends to " transcend conventional notions of material substances"—an artistic direction that should change the way visitors interact with the works.
The project is the fruit of an interdisciplinary collaboration involving several Kansai companies. It is part of a wider vision for the city of Kyoto, aimed at encouraging creative urban development focused on art, culture and the engagement of younger generations.
What can we expect?
The museum will feature several digital works. The studio has already revealed a preview of some of them:
- Massless Amorphous Sculpture : Presented as an immense floating sculpture, this sea of bubbles transcends our concept of mass. It doesn't touch the floor or ceiling, but floats in the middle of the space, reacting to visitors' movements, transforming into a fluid, ephemeral form as they explore. Comparable to an "ocean vortex", it plunges the viewer into an enchanted world, where art manifests itself through energy and the environment.
- The Forest of Lamps: Similar to the installations in Odaiba's first TeamLab (2018-2022), this piece highlights colorful lamps reflected in the surrounding mirrors, to give the impression of wandering through a luminous forest.
- The Morphing Continuum: This is one of the most eagerly awaited installations. Luminous spheres float together to create a living entity in constant evolution. It symbolizes the fluidity of time and space, and offers an immersive sensory experience.
- The Traces of Life: With each step, visitors leave luminous traces that gradually dissipate, illustrating the ephemeral impact of our actions and the connection between individuals.
