Now boarding: the Pompoko train lands in Tokyo!

Attention Studio Ghibli fans: from October 17 to December 21, Tama's monorail trains will be decorated with scenes from the film Pompoko. And that's not all: a stamp rally will even take place along the line! Want to find out more? Japan Experience tells you all about this exceptional collaboration with Miyazaki's studio.

West of Tokyo the hills of Tama are famous for having inspired the sets of Pompoko (1994), an animated film by Studio Ghibli the film follows the adventures of a community of tanuki as they try to save their habitat from the clutches of crooked real estate developers.
From October 17, these adorable characters will invade the Tama monorail as part of an exceptional collaboration with Studio Ghibli! A total of four trains will be decorated with iconic scenes from the film. The monorail will serve all 19 stations on the line, as usual, from Kamikitadai Station to Tama Center Station.
Inside, you'll also find posters featuring 30 locations in the Tama region that inspired Miyazaki. The Tama Dobutsu Koen station will also host an ephemeral art gallery, featuring illustrations from the film's production.
A unique stamp rally
This autumn, go stamp hunting! The stamp rally will take you to four iconic Pompoko locations: Tama Center Station, Tama Dobutsu Koen Station, Tachikawa Kita Station and Kamikitadai Station. The stamps feature Tama's monorail mascot, the black cat Tamao, wearing various costumes inspired by the film!
To take part, simply pick up the official stamp sheet at one of the above-mentioned stations. Once the stamps have been collected, present the sheet at Tama Center station or Tachikawa Kita station to receive an exclusive Pompoko lenticular card!
An exclusive pass
To make the most of this collaboration, the Tama monorail is offering a one-day pass, adorned with Pompoko characters. For 890 yen (adult), fans can enjoy unlimited rides on the entire monorail route!
The pass is available from ticket offices at Tama Center, Takahatafudo, Tachikawa Minami, Tachikawa Kita and Tamagawa Josui stations. Chuo Daigaku Meisei Daigaku and Tachihi stations will also be offering passes between 8am and 8pm and 8am and 6pm respectively.
