The Chrysanthemum and the Sword
Behind the walls of Nagamachi District, centuries of history are sleeping quietly. In the former residence of the Nomura family, the hours, the days, months and years are frozen in Edo period (1603-1868).
Samurai families were in service to the clan leader of the city, and the Nomuras used their swords to conquer for the Maeda clan. The influence of one of the most powerful families in Kanazawa is reflected through the sophisticated splendor of their house, now restored and open to the public.
Refined architecture, breathtaking murals and decorative ceilings will have your your head spinning, the charms of this old house too many. Relaxing by one of the most loved garden in Japan reveals a waterfall that pours afloat dancing carp. Visitors are instantly transported to the Edo period, away from cars and noises of the city. Unfortunately this glory was short-lived for the Nomura family. The restoration of the imperial power in the Meiji era (1868-1912) led to the decline of feudal lords like Maeda, who prevailed through their mercenaries, including Nomura. Come return to a golden age that never ceases to amaze.
