Mount Fuji in the snow.

View of Fuji

Located in the heart of the five lakes region at the foot of Mt. Fuji, Kawaguchiko offers the best view and is, perhaps more importantly, a less expensive destination than neighboring Hakone .

The area is famous for its lavender fields in the summer, whose scent fill the air and add a beautiful touch of purple to the display of Mount Fuji and Lake Kawaguchi for which it is named. There are numerous hot springs and ryokan in the city, some of which offer rooms with spectacular views of the lake and the sacred mountain.

Kawaguchiko is also a gateway to the southwest door of the Japanese Alps (Matsumoto and Nagano) and one of the highlights of the Five Lakes Region.
