Shukkei-en garden in Hiroshima

Discover Hiroshima, half-day

See the best sights of Hiroshima in half a day.

The opinion of Japan Experience

Hiroshima is perhaps most famous for being the first city in the world to be destroyed by a nuclear bomb. Although this history is still clearly evident, it's not the only thing that Hiroshima is famous for. The thing that will strike you most is that rather than being a depressing place, it is a place of peace, hope, and love, and its locals are full of enthusiasm for their home, which they will want to share with you at every opportunity.

Completely rebuilt after the war, it is now one of the most popular tourist destinations in Western Japan and is lucky enough to have easy access to both mountains and the Seto Inland Sea. It may be smaller than other cities in the area, but it has friendly locals and as a result of its past, a courage and spirit that cannot be found anywhere else in Japan.

Your Travel Angel's plus

Alexis has a particular gift in discovering (and helping you discover) places in Hiroshima that few tourists know about.

Description

Take a half day tour and see the major tourists attractions, or let your guide take you to lesser known places that only the locals know.

Half day tours can include the following Hiroshima experiences:

Walking through the Peace Park, marveling at the Atomic Bomb Dome and visiting the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum. This is of course, the standard tour that most tourists do.

If you’re looking for something a little different, or perhaps you’ve already done the above on your own, let Alexis take you to a few of the other essential Hiroshima sights: Hiroshima Castle and Shukkei-en Garden.

For a view of the city, the surrounding mountains and all the way to the islands of the Seto Inland Sea, why not visit the newly opened Orizuru Tower? If you’d prefer somewhere few tourists go, ask Alexis to show you his ‘secret’ spot where the view is free and you can rest while enjoying a cup of coffee or something to eat.

Of course, if you're interested in shopping, there is the downtown area of Hondori (‘main street’ in Japanese) and Shareo, the underground shopping mall, which you can combine with a tour of the Peace Park on request. Alexis can also take you to Don Quijote (‘Donki’ as it’s affectionately known), a huge discount store where you can stock up on souvenirs such as green tea Kit-Kats and anything else you can think of. If quirky and less touristy shops and goods are more your thing, let Alexis guide you to the best places in town! He knows where to find a bargain, especially for clothes and accessories.

After the tour is over, Alexis will be more than happy to recommend some ideas for how to spend the rest of your day and can also suggest some of his favorite places to eat and drink.

Come and visit and spend a memorable and enjoyable half day in the historical city of Hiroshima!
